Police Emerald Society of Baltimore – PESB Tag Policy
The Police Emerald Society of Baltimore (PESB) affords its members the opportunity to obtain PESB Specialty License Plates from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). The PESB License Plate Committee, appointed by and under the direction of the PESB Brehon Council (Board of Directors), administers the PESB License Plate Program. PESB Members seeking to obtain or retain PESB Specialty License Plates must adhere to all requirements of the PESB License Plate Policy, unless granted a specific exemption by the PESB Brehon Council.
Active and Associate PESB Members in good standing may apply to obtain PESB Specialty License Plates. Applicants must appear in person at a regularly stated meeting of the PESB and submit a written application on the forms provided by the PESB License Plate Committee for a Specialty License Plate for a specific vehicle, and attach a check for the required fees, a copy of the vehicle registration showing they are the owner of the subject vehicle, and a copy of their current PES Membership Card. Upon request, the Brehon Council may grant a specific exemption to requirement to personally apply at a stated meeting. The Brehon Council may also grant a specific exemption to the above personal ownership registration requirement if the PESB member provides a vehicle registration which shows the vehicle is registered to a commercial entity, and documentation that the PESB member is the owner of that entity, as long as the vehicle concerned does not display any commercial or corporate markings, labels or advertizing.
All Associate Member initial applications, and, at the discretion of the PESB License Plate Committee, any other application, will be forwarded to the Brehon Council for vote prior to final approval.
PESB Specialty License Plates will not be displayed on a vehicle bearing any commercial or corporate markings, labels or advertizing.
PESB Specialty License Plates will not be transferred by a PESB member to another vehicle or to any other person by a subsequent transfer in ownership of the vehicle without separate application to the PESB License Plate Committee.
PESB Members not in good standing as certified by the PESB Secretary are not eligible to obtain or retain PESB Specialty License Plates. Upon certification and notification by the PESB Secretary that a member is not in good standing, a member currently possessing plates must resolve their status within 60 days or return the PESB Specialty Plates to the MVA.
Notwithstanding any other provision of this policy, eligibility for PESB Specialty License Plates may be withdrawn at any time for good cause as determined by the Brehon Council.
PESB members may not claim any law enforcement status, privilege or authority based solely on their PESB membership or possession of PESB Specialty License Plates.
Upon notification by the PESB Secretary that a member’s eligibility for PESB Specialty License Plates has been withdrawn for any reason, the member must return the PESB Specialty License Plate to the MVA within 60 days. The PESB Secretary will provide also provide separate timely notification to the MVA to cease renewing and recover the member’s PESB Specialty License Plates.
This policy is incorporated into the PESB By-Laws as an addendum. Any violation of the PESB Specialty License Plates Policy will subject a member to disciplinary measures as prescribed by the PESB By-Laws.
